TOUR PREVIEW: Moderator + The Architect (CA + MX)

This July, two artists from opposite sides of the world but cut from a similar cloth will be joining forces for a unique run of dates across California and Mexico. Athens, Greece-based producer Moderator and Los Angeles, CA beatmaking veteran The Architect will bring their respective takes on sample-driven music to Sneaky Fox Records on July 9 before continuing through Los Angeles, Joshua Tree, San Francisco, Valle de Guadalupe, and Tijuana.

Moderator arrives on the heels of Silent Cinema, a lush, cinematic collection of trip-hop rhythms, soul samples, and atmospheric textures that was recently recognized by Bandcamp as one of the standout hip-hop releases of the year. Expect a set rich in mood and immersion, where dusty beats and evocative melodies unfold like scenes from a film.

Meanwhile, The Architect continues to mine the depths of hip-hop's history with his latest album, The Greatest Story Never Told, a project built from archival material carefully selected alongside Peanut Butter Wolf from the Stones Throw Records vaults. The result is a warm, deeply rooted record that reflects decades of crate-digging expertise and an enduring commitment to the art of beatmaking.

While their sounds occupy different corners of the beat scene, both artists share a deep appreciation for crate-digging, storytelling, and building immersive sonic worlds from unexpected source material. Moderator's cinematic blend of trip-hop, soul, and downtempo textures pairs naturally with The Architect's decades-spanning approach to underground hip-hop production, making this a particularly intriguing double bill for fans of thoughtful instrumental music. Curated by Sneaky Fox Records founder Lizzy, the tour celebrates the connective tissue between scenes, generations, and creative approaches—and promises an evening of deep grooves, rich atmosphere, and musical discovery.

“Though they come from different countries, scenes, and generations, there’s a shared sensibility in the way they approach their craft,” says Lizzy. “Both artists are rooted in sampling culture and sonic exploration, but what stood out to me was their ability to tell stories through music. Their sounds are completely their own, yet both artists build immersive musical worlds that draw listeners beyond the everyday.”
