Sparkler - “Postal”

Sparkler is a local shoegaze band comprised of Tron Castillo, Christopher Sennes, Amelia Sarkisian, and Ian Marshall. The four-piece draws from plenty of ‘90s stalwarts - mixing moments of abrasive distortion and glistening melody with lots of heart. Classic gaze dialed up to heights both massive and intimate. We were big fans of their 2023 LP Big Sonic Chill, which we highly suspect was named after the legendary, ethereal-minded radio show that ran on Friday nights on FM 94.9 back in the mid-2000s.

Today, the band has dropped “Postal,” the gorgeous and hypnotic lead single off their forthcoming sophomore LP Glidewinder - which arrives on April 10 via A La Carte Records. “Postal” is vintage reverb-soaked shoegaze that snowballs, ebbs, and flows between bleary guitars and whispy vocals. The track captures a surging intensity to it that teases at something more complex going on instrumentally throughout the rest of the album. According to the band, Glidewinder is “more than just guitars and drums. Chain links were on cymbals, coconut shells hit with skateboard wheels, percussion and guitar loops were reversed, slowed down, sped up, and slammed through various effects pedals.” Color us intrigued. A track built for fans of legends like MBV and Slowdive, but also newer up-and-comers like Mo Dotti and Attic Ocean.
