History

Opened in 2015, Music Box took over the space formerly occupied by Anthology, a well-known jazz club. The venue was revamped into a modern multi-level concert hall, quickly becoming a live music staple in San Diego while attracting both local and national touring acts. Operated by the Belly Up, Music Box’s programming skews the youngest of its venues, catering to hip crowds hungry to catch buzzy and/or up-and-coming acts of all genres; Jockstrap, Soccer Mommy, Dan Deacon, Joyce Manor, Black Midi, and more have all played in recent years.

Vibe

Music Box offers a chic and modern aesthetic with an emphasis on premium sound quality and ambiance. The venue’s multi-level design has a sophisticated Vegas club feel to it; the layout includes a GA floor, second story VIP balcony, and upper GA mezzanine level for a versatile concert experience. The atmosphere is intimate but lively, with a crowd that ranges from dedicated music fans to casual concertgoers. One small downside is the venue’s narrow layout, which can lead to slight bottlenecks and obscured views.

Alcohol Situation

Multiple bars on each floor offer a diverse selection of beer, wine, and craft cocktails. With its location in Little Italy, some of San Diego’s best restaurants and bars are perfect for pregaming.

Parking Situation

Street parking can be tough, but there are many paid parking lots nearby.
