Dorvin Borman - “Deep City Diving”
It’s been a while since we heard anything new from our good friend and musician Dorvin Borman. For years, the Brooklyn-based artist crafted groovy, hypnotic indie and dream pop, with tracks like “Pressure Valve” and “Mirror Pool” being favorites of ours. But it’s been at least a couple years since he’s released anything - until earlier this year when he dropped the new single “Deep City Diving,” and it’s a fascinating and welcome stylistic pivot into lo-fi house and dance music.
While the track definitely leans into a more buoyant and dance-y palette of sounds, it doesn’t feel at all out of place in his discography, retaining a lot of his dreamy and ethereal sensibilities even as glistening synths and propulsive house beats steer the ship. Warped vocal samples are spliced throughout along with plenty of other hazy sounds and atmospherics, which conjure that dream pop-meets-club music feel.
Dorvin Borman may or may not have other music in the works; we’ll definitely keep you posted if it materializes. In the meantime, get lost in the meditative grooves of “Deep City Diving.”
