Daddy - “Shark Song”

Self-described “glitter indie rock” duo Daddy — Brooke Patterson (vocals/guitar) and Jessica Muchnick (bass) — continue their ascent with the slick new single and video “Shark Song.” High school classmates turned best friends, the pair have already built a strong foundation with a run of standout singles and last year’s Hell, Ohio EP, carving out a sound that feels both vintage and vividly their own.

“Shark Song” is a swaggering blend of indie rock, ‘60s garage grit, and psych-tinged surf pop. Warbly, reverb-soaked guitars and pulsating rhythms create a hypnotic undercurrent, while Patterson’s cool, commanding vocal performance pulls everything into orbit. Lyrically, the track uses the image of a circling shark — peering through “bars of the cage” — to highlight desire, obsession, and the thrill of the chase, building toward the intimate, slightly unnerving refrain: “it’s just me, and you.”

The accompanying video, shot by photographer Ty Mullins, leans fully into the band’s kaleidoscopic aesthetic. Patterson delivers the performance through an old-school red telephone, twirling its coiled cord amid trippy filters and bold, eye-popping colors. It’s a perfect visual companion to a track that feels equal parts seductive and surreal. Give the track and video a spin below:
