Tania Cassette - “The Flame”

San Diego’s Tania Cassette steps into the spotlight with her striking debut solo single, “The Flame.” Best known as one-half of darkwave/synthpop favorites Glass Spells, Tania helped steer the duo from local cult status to the wider goth circuit, releasing three albums — 2016’s self-titled debut, 2021’s Shattered, and 2024’s Crystals — and landing sets at SoCal festivals like Cruel World and Darker Waves.

With Glass Spells currently on hiatus, “The Flame” feels like a natural but intensified evolution of that sound. Flickering drum machines, humming basslines, and glassy synth textures build patiently, layering into something both ominous and magnetic. When the chorus hits — “you break me down then throw me back in the fire / echoing your name” — it lands as a searing emotional release, channeling longing, regret, and pain into a full-bodied war cry.

The accompanying video, directed by Sultan Mars, leans fully into noir-drenched goth aesthetics — red and black palettes, shadowy compositions, and a night drive in a red convertible — perfectly matching the track’s mood. It’s a confident, evocative debut that sets the tone for what could be a compelling new chapter. Keep tabs on Tania Cassette — and give “The Flame” a spin below.
