The Sundering - “Time Decay”

San Diego’s own The Sundering continue to emerge from the SoCal underground with brute force on their latest single, Time Decay. Formed through a mix of day jobs and Craigslist connections, the band has already carved out a lane with their 2025 EP Offerings and a string of hulking standalone releases — each one pushing their extreme thrash sound further into chaos.

“Time Decay” is a full-on, seven-minute onslaught. Relentless, high-speed riffage barrels forward, colliding with careening breakdowns and throat-shredding vocals that flex an impressive, punishing range. The first half is a mangled, chugging barrage of sound, before the track takes a sharp left turn into a surprisingly smooth, lounge-jazz interlude — noodling guitar lines and drifting rhythms offering a brief, eerie calm. It doesn’t last. The song snaps back into a pummeling, hypnotic finale that feels even heavier for the contrast.

Fans of Knocked Loose, Converge, and Oathbreaker will feel right at home here. Try not to headbang — you won’t win. Catch The Sundering live at McGuffie’s on May 17 with Once Loved, Safeworld, and COATL, and give “Time Decay” a spin below:
