Little Heroine - “Forever Young”
San Diego indie-rock outfit Little Heroine, the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Michael N. Shannon, returns with the sweeping, emotionally charged new single “Forever Young.” Having spent the better part of a decade crafting his distinctive blend of indie, alternative rock, and grunge, Shannon – who handles everything from vocals and guitars to drums and production – continues to expand his sonic palette following last year's sophomore LP, To Have or To Be?. Clocking in at nearly six and a half minutes, “Forever Young” is a sprawling, ballad-like meditation on the passage of time, weaving jangly acoustic and electric guitars, shimmering synth textures, and soaring, Coldplay-esque melodies into a stirring wall of sound. Brief flashes of noisy dissonance give way to a massive, cathartic chorus, as snowballing power chords and impassioned vocals elevate the track to an anthemic crescendo. Beneath its grandiose instrumentation lies a deeply personal reflection on aging, embracing change, and holding onto the spirit of one's younger self.
"The cliche of time flying by as you grow older is no joke,” Shannon wrote in an Instagram post about the track. “The past 3-4 years of life have particularly felt like a blur and it's difficult to not simply continue barreling forward sometimes without stopping to look around or catch a breath every once in a while. I feel growing older is a never-ending journey of trying to retain the truth and spirit of who you have always been since you were young. I think we all know it deep down, but we live in a world that pushes us to forget. I wrote this song thinking on that."
