Raue - “Escape”
Raue is a young duo originally hailing from Santa Cruz but who are now based in San Diego - comprised of singer-guitarist Paige Kalenian and drummer Jax Huckle. They’ve been on a fast-rising trajectory thanks to their raw and forward-thinking take on grunge, with elements of shoegaze sprinkled throughout. They’ve dropped a new single called “Escape” along with its gorgeous black-and-white music video, the latest taste of their forthcoming EP too scared to explain - which drops on May 9 via (Dis)Harmony Recordings.
“Escape” is yet another vulnerable, unfiltered track from the duo, with explosive guitars and thunderous drums accompanying Kalenian’s yearning croon through catchy choruses and gnarled melodies. Inspired by a poem Paige stumbled across that tackles themes of grief, it’s a paradoxical track exploring the searing euphoric highs and crushing, depressive lows that love can conjure. With its cinematic guitars, inspiring intensity, and therapeutic vocals, "Escape" makes you feel every bit of the band’s confessional tones.
“I want listeners to feel like we’re unmasked — raw, relatable, and real,” Paige shared of the new EP. You can keep tabs on too scared to explain HERE, and dive into the haunting beauty of “Escape” below.
