THEM - “Vintage Jeans”

THEM is an emerging Seattle-based all-girl pop rock band comprised of Hudson Steere, Thompson Whitehead, Ellie Vann, and Lydia Mellott. Having formed back when some of the members were still in high school, THEM have been steadily releasing excellent singles full of lush guitar melodies, dance-y rhythms, and catchy, singalong-inducing choruses. One of their singles that dropped late last year, “Kool-Aid,” has been in our constant rotation ever since its release. Now, the rising quartet have released another instant-classic track “Vintage Jeans.”

Opening on a throbbing bassline, Steere and Whitehead trade off lead vocals as the track initially simmers before exploding into an infectious chorus with revved-up guitars, pulsating percussion, and immaculately layered vocal harmonies. “I wouldn’t let you go if you were a good guy,” Steere croons, touching on themes of romantic strife set against the recurring motif of a reliable pair of jeans. The midway bridge feels like a true rally cry, featuring crashing drums and throttling riffage galore.

It’s sure looking like a breakthrough year for THEM. As more singles pile up, fans may wonder if a debut full-length LP is in the works. Until then, let yourself loose to “Vintage Jeans” below.
