History
Formerly known as Park in the Park, Gallagher Square renamed in 2020 following a sponsorship agreement. Originally designated as a public park space within Petco Park, it has evolved into a versatile venue for concerts, festivals, and community events - when it’s not hosting Padres games. It’s undergone costly renovations over the years in order to transform into one of the city’s premier venues for larger touring acts, making it an exciting and vital addition to downtown’s live music and nightlife scene. Recently, major acts like Jimmy Eat World, Pixies, Modest Mouse, Darius Rucker, Hozier, Daniel Caesar, Dom Dolla, and more have played.
Vibe
Gallagher Square provides a dynamic, open-air concert experience with the San Diego skyline as a stunning backdrop. It’s spacious lawn and flexible setup allow for both intimate and large-scale performances. The venue attracts a wide mix of internationally touring artists, catering to fans of various genres: indie, alt-rock, hip-hop, EDM, R&B, pop, reggaeton, and more. Given its location inside Petco Park, the venue maintains a sports-meets-music atmosphere, creating a unique fusion of entertainment.
Alcohol Situation
As a part of Petco Park, Gallagher Square features countless stands and bars in the ballpark offering all types of beer, wine, specialty cocktails. Selections are often tailored to the event. With its downtown location, there are also plenty of nearby bars to pregame at.
Parking Situation
The usual downtown madness. There’s paid parking lots and garages nearby, but Uber/Lyft and the trolley are recommended.
