History

Quartyard opened in 2015 as an innovative project transforming a vacant downtown lot into a multi-use park and venue. It’s since moved from its original location and settled on Market Street. Built using repurposed shipping containers, it’s become a unique space for live music, art events, and community gatherings. Its commitment to sustainability and urban revitalization has earned it recognition as a forward-thinking space that fosters creativity and connection. Quartyard has hosted mid-level bands and artists of all genres and backgrounds: Allah-Las, Chicago Batman, STRKFKR, Wednesday, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Cut Chemist, and more.

Vibe

The aura at Quartyard is laid-back, eclectic, and inviting. Its outdoor setting - featuring string lights, casual seating options,  and tasty food trucks - creates a relaxed atmosphere perfect for enjoying shows. The musical lineup is all over the place, but the venue typically caters best to mid-level acts who already have a dedicated following. Thanks to its outdoor setting, the sound is immaculate and the viewing area is vast and spacious and accommodating of packed, enthusiastic crowds. With the downtown cityscape surrounding it on all sides, there’s always a classic “street scene” vibe to Quartyard that really encapsulates San Diego.

Alcohol Situation

The venue’s full-service bar offers a selection of over a dozen craft brews, a deep menu of specialty cocktails, and a selection of non-alcoholic beverage. You’re allowed to drink and lounge in the outdoor area even on non-show nights, making Quartyard just a great spot to unwind and socialize.

Parking Situation

Typical downtown madness - plenty of paid lots, or you can hope to get lucky and find a street spot. If you already live downtown, Uber or Lyft is a must.
