History

Humphrey’s Concerts By The Bay has been a landmark of San Diego’s music scene since 1982. Originally conceived as an intimate outdoor venue connected to Humphrey’s Half Moon Inn, it has expanded and grown into one of the most respected and beloved outdoor spots for live performances in SoCal. At its size and capacity, it typically hosts well-known artists with strong fan followings. While its programming is all over the place genre-wise, Humphrey’s does tend to skew older, and has hosted an impressive range of legacy acts like Bonnie Raitt, Ringo Starr, Steely Dan, Blondie, and more. Even the “younger” artists who play tend to have been around for a while and have established fanbases: Animal Collective, Courtney Barnett, etc.

Vibe

Humphrey’s offers a relaxed, slightly more upscale, and uniquely picturesque concert-going experience. Nestled alongside the marina overlooking the boat docks, the venue’s palm trees, ocean breeze, and spectacular views create an unforgettable atmosphere. Unlike high-energy rock venues, Humphrey’s is known for its laid-back vibe, making it the perfect place to enjoy jazz, soft rock, pop, and singer-songwriter performances in a stunning outdoor environment. You’ll even see non-ticketed fans watching outside the venue from their boats on the nearby dock, adding a magical maritime quality to the whole experience.

Alcohol Situation

The venue features a full bar serving beer, wine, and cocktails, in addition to designated drink stands within the venue. Additionally, Humphrey’s Restaurant and Backstage Lounge offers pre-show dining and drinks - a more upscale experience if you’re looking for one.

Parking Situation

Plenty of paid parking lots on Shelter Island, and some street parking spots if you’re willing to walk.
