Nuovo Testamento - ‘Trouble’ EP

One of the best bands we caught at this year’s Sound and Fury festival in L.A. was ironically NOT one of the typical heavy groups on the bill, but rather, local Los Angeles new wave/dream pop revivalists Nuovo Testamento. The band’s ethereal, lush, vibrant synth pop melodies and intimate themes and moods actually played as an incredible sonic detour from the usual gnarled punk, hardcore, and metal offerings of the day. By the end of the set, a throwback dance-party was in full swing.

With two albums under their belt, 2021’s New Earth and 2023’s Love Lines, Nuovo Testamento have racked up an impressive, high quality discography so far, but they’re keeping the creative hot streak alive with the release of their new EP Trouble, which dropped this past week via Discoteca Italia. Overall, it’s a beautifully effervescent release with crystalline production, devastating songwriting, and soothing vocal performances from start-to-finish. Singles “Picture Perfect” and “Dream On” capture the album’s beating sonic heart; ‘80s and ‘90s synthpop and alternative rock influences with a fresh sound that’s still all their own.
